Let’s just say this past month has been an up and down struggle. I am just being honest. I have found myself still fumbling on eating a plant-based. I will be doing really good for 2-3 weeks and then have one week of eating anything I want (no meat still). Then after the week of eating poorly jump right back into eating healthy for a couple weeks and the cycle begins again. I don’t know why this is such a huge hurdle for me. I know what to do/eat but it is so hard when temptation comes. Then I feel really bad about my eating habits and get down on myself. I call this “the yo-yo cycle.” It’s a constant cycle of going back and forth. All the poor habits I have created over the years keep coming back. This is the biggest struggle I have been facing on this journey. The positive take away is that I can recognize it now. I am not perfect and things in life pop up. Right now I have been on track for a couple weeks now. Farmers market season in California is in full swing. There are two local farmers markets every weekend in my town. I usually get all my veggies and fruits for the week there. California fruit is so delicious in the summer. It is something I enjoy eating. I am just waiting for everything in this plant-based journey to “click.” Once everything clicks then I know I will see tremendous progress.
CrossFit and Exercise
The one solid constant in this journey has been my exercise. My eating might be a complete mess some weeks, but I am still hitting the gym week in and week out. This has been the most positive part of this journey. I am proud of myself for sticking to the workouts and staying active. I am blessed to live in an area where it is easy to stay active. I have a huge trail/park right next to my house. I have been going to CrossFit 3-4 times a week. This past month I have been thinking about CrossFit and if aligns with my weight loss goals. In May, I hurt my arm and had to take 2 weeks off from any activity. I could not jog without my arm throbbing with pain. Simple tasks like putting on a shirt would cause shooting pain near my elbow area. I did a little research and found out I had Tennis Elbow. This is a very common injury in the CrossFit community. All the heavy barbell workouts put a lot of strain on your elbows/arms. I must have pulled a little too hard on one of the workouts. This injury concerned me. I played sports growing up and NEVER got hurt. I am pretty lucky looking back. This was another reason why this update I did not lose as much weight. I had to ice my arm and make sure it got fully healed.
Update: After 2 weeks of icing my elbow three times a day my arm is 100% healed. I have no pain in my arm anymore. Praise the Lord. The rest and recovery might have slowed my journey down but was necessary for me to get healthy. I have not enjoyed CrossFit as much lately and have found it a little too intense for the average female just trying to lose weight. I have decided that this month will be my last month doing CrossFit and I will join a normal gym. I have been thinking about this for over a month now. I am excited for this change and think a normal gym will align more with my goals (weight loss).
- January 1st weight: 200 pounds. Current weight as of 6/4/2018: 182
I lost 4 pounds this update. My last update was a month ago. To be honest I should have lost more weight than 4 pounds. I know this journey is more about the mental aspect over the physical. This month I have been very hard on my emotions. I have been down on myself for not losing more weight. But, I have come to realize that this is not an easy process. When you have created such bad habits like I have created, it is very hard to break them (mostly binge eating). I am going to focus more on the positives changes I have made in my life and keep moving forward.
Favorite WOD of the week
300 meter run (counts as 1 rep)
20 Air squats
- I enjoy workouts like these. Simple movements that get your heartrate up! I did 3 complete rounds plus one run.
- Brittany Dawn Fitness- This woman is a little bit intimidating at first. Her YouTube channel is packed with weight loss tips, workouts, and plant-based/vegetarian meals. I have learned so much from her channel and don’t miss a video.
Thanks for hanging in there with me on this journey. All the constant love and support means a lot. This is a pivotal time in this journey. It is going to take a lot of focus and dedication. I am ready to start fresh and really take this journey to the next level. I’m ready for the next 20 weeks!
